The 101st Annual Session of Indian Science Congress has been scheduled to be held at the University of Jammu from 3rd – 7th Feb 2014 which will focus on the theme “Innovations in Science and Technology for Inclusive Development”. During this session, an attempt shall be made to showcase the recent developments in the field of Science & Technology in the country and abroad. The event shall be inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. International experts along with National luminaries from different streams of Science & Technology and leaders of many Science Academics are expected to participate in this Congress. As many as 12000- 15000 delegates including Noble Laureates, Senior Scientists, Teachers, Young Scholars and Students are expected to participate and present their research findings. A road map for investing science into the development process of India is the main topic for discussion. Various economic sectors like agriculture, housing, energy, environment, health care, water, home land security, communication etc may require new scientific knowledge for shaping their future. There shall be parallel sessions namely Agriculture and Forestry Sciences; Animal, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Anthropological and Behavioral Sciences (including Archaeology and Psychology & Educational Sciences); Chemical Sciences; Earth System Sciences; Engineering Sciences; Environmental Sciences; Information and Communication Science & Technology (including Computer Sciences); Material Sciences; Mathematical Sciences (including Statistics); Medical Sciences (including Physiology); New Biology (including Biochemistry, Biophysics & Molecular Biology and Biotechnology); Physical Sciences; Plant Sciences during the Congress as well as separate sessions for ‘Women Science Congress’, ‘Children Science Congress’, ‘Science Exhibition’ and ‘Science Communicators Meet’.

It is heartening to note that the projected Science Congress would seek to draw the attention of scientists, technologists and all stake holders for determining pragmatic approaches for Science and Technology being utilised for empowering citizens and enabling them to lead better lives.

I am glad to know that the University of Jammu is organizing and hosting the 101st session of the All India Congress. This is slated to take place on the 3rd to 7th February, 2014.
